Frequently asked questions

1.
Do I need an asbestos test before starting renovation in NYC?

Yes, in most cases. NYC DOB requires asbestos requirements to be satisfied before issuing a permit, and NYS DOL requires asbestos surveys for renovations and demolitions regardless of building age unless the building is assumed to contain asbestos.

2.
What is an ACP-5 and when is it required?

An ACP-5 is the Asbestos Assessment Report filed with NYC DEP, certifying that no asbestos-containing material is present in the work area or that the project qualifies as a minor abatement. It is typically required to release DOB permits.

3.
How long does asbestos testing take?

Most NYC asbestos testing projects take three to seven business days from inspection to final report, depending on the size of the work area, the number of samples collected, and the laboratory turnaround required for the project.

4.
What happens if asbestos is found in my project?

If asbestos-containing material is identified, the work area must go through licensed abatement before construction continues. We coordinate the next step through licensed contractors and prepare the documentation needed for DOB and DEP closeout.

5.
Who can perform an asbestos inspection in NYC?

NYC requires asbestos investigations to be performed by DEP-certified asbestos investigators. Lab testing must be completed by accredited laboratories. Our inspections, sampling, and ACP-5 filings meet both certification and accreditation requirements.
